Kari Scinski
Nurse Practitioner
I’m Kari Scinski, BScN, RN, MN-NP, a Nurse Practitioner providing compassionate, evidence-informed healthcare in Edmonton, Alberta. With more than 15 years of experience in nursing and healthcare, I support patients through routine health concerns, complex medical needs, and significant life transitions.
My clinical interests include primary care, women’s health, reproductive health, menopause management, preventive medicine, and family-centred care. I believe effective healthcare begins with listening. My goal is to help each patient understand their health, participate confidently in care decisions, and take practical steps toward long-term well-being.
A Career Built on Compassionate Care
My healthcare career began in long-term care after I completed the Health Care Aide program at NorQuest College. During four years of work as a Health Care Aide, I learned how meaningful respectful, attentive care can be—especially for people experiencing illness, disability, or major changes in their independence.
That early experience continues to influence my work today. It taught me to see the person behind the medical concern and reinforced the importance of dignity, empathy, communication, and collaboration.
Nursing Experience in Labour and Delivery
I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating with distinction and receiving academic recognition that included the Jason Lang Scholarship.
After completing my nursing degree, I joined the Labour and Delivery unit at Edmonton’s Royal Alexandra Hospital. There, I spent many years caring for women and families during routine pregnancies, complex deliveries, and unexpected medical situations.
Supporting patients through pregnancy and childbirth strengthened my commitment to women’s health and family-centred healthcare. It also gave me a deeper understanding of the physical, emotional, and social factors that can shape a person’s health experience.
During my final five years in Labour and Delivery, I worked as an Assistant Head Nurse. In this leadership role, I supported nursing staff, encouraged a collaborative workplace culture, and helped maintain high standards for patient safety and clinical care.
Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner
Throughout my nursing career, I saw the value of preventing illness, identifying concerns early, and building lasting relationships between patients and healthcare providers. These experiences motivated me to pursue advanced education through the Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner, Family/All Ages program at Athabasca University.
I completed the program in December 2025, expanding my ability to assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe, educate, and coordinate care for patients across the lifespan.
My Nurse Practitioner education included clinical experience in busy primary care environments, where I helped manage a broad range of acute illnesses, chronic conditions, preventive health needs, and ongoing medical concerns.
Women’s Health and Menopause Care
Women’s health remains an important focus of my practice. In addition to my extensive Labour and Delivery experience, I pursued further clinical training in obstetrics and gynecology to strengthen my knowledge of health concerns affecting women at different stages of life.
My areas of interest include:
Preventive health and routine screening
Reproductive and sexual health
Menstrual and hormonal concerns
Perimenopause and menopause
Pregnancy-related and postpartum care
Health education and lifestyle support
I am also completing specialized education in menopause management through a certification course accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This training supports my commitment to providing informed, individualized care for patients navigating perimenopause and menopause.
Serving Edmonton’s Diverse Communities
I currently practise at Jasper Place Wellness Centre in Edmonton, where I care for individuals and families with a wide variety of medical and social needs.
I am especially committed to working with people who experience barriers to healthcare, including vulnerable and underserved members of the community. Every person deserves to be treated with respect and to receive thoughtful care regardless of their circumstances.
My approach considers more than symptoms alone. I recognize that housing, finances, family responsibilities, stress, trauma, access to services, and other life circumstances can all affect health. I work collaboratively with patients and other professionals to create care plans that are realistic, respectful, and responsive to each person’s needs.
My Approach to Patient Care
I aim to create a healthcare environment where patients feel heard, informed, and comfortable asking questions. My approach combines clinical knowledge with compassion, practical health education, and shared decision-making.
I also draw on appropriate principles from personal development and health coaching to help patients identify goals, build confidence, and make sustainable changes. These strategies complement medical care and are tailored to each patient’s circumstances, priorities, and readiness.
I remain committed to continuing education, professional collaboration, and evidence-informed practice. Whether I am helping someone manage an ongoing condition, understand a new health concern, navigate menopause, or access community support, my purpose is the same: to provide healthcare that is respectful, useful, and meaningful.
